Trenton Allen is the Founder and CEO of Sustainable Capital Advisors, a climate financial advisory and strategic consulting firm focused on connecting capital to sustainable infrastructure solutions. Allen is a leader and recognized expert in the clean energy policy and finance sector with more than $30 billion in transaction experience in utility, energy, transportation, and other forms of public infrastructure. As CEO, Allen navigates the strategic direction of SCA while continuing to provide clients with subject-matter expertise on the ins and outs of executing sustainable infrastructure projects. Trenton's long-standing and vast experience in the financial services industry allows him to identify the parties and partners best suited for collaboration to create a more profitable, inclusive, and climate-resilient future.
Allen began his career at Public Financial Management, Inc., (PFM) the nation's largest financial advisor for state and local government. Starting as a consultant with no formal finance training, Allen gravitated to the quantitative roles building financial models and executing complex financial restructurings for electric utility clients. His passion for numbers led to a role leading the firm's intensive finance training program and serving as head of the Quantitative Strategies Group. After leaving PFM, Allen began a 10+ year career at Citi, focusing on traditional municipal utilities, public infrastructure, and the emerging landscape of sustainable infrastructure finance opportunities. Working at the leading edge of sustainable infrastructure finance, Allen executed transactions that foreshadowed the success of the domestic market for green bonds and the unique financing role of green banks.
In addition to his direct work in sustainable finance, Allen has served as a thought leader and teacher/ mentor at the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy at the University of Delaware, teaching a graduate-level sustainable infrastructure finance course. He graduated from Harvard University with an AB in Chemistry.
