Daniel Lau is a Portfolio Manager at the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) helping manage the Sustainable Investment and Stewardship Strategies (SISS) investment portfolio. The SISS investment portfolio is an opportunistic and unconstrained allocation designed to source and invest into sustainable investment opportunities across the risk-return spectrum from infrastructure, credit to private equity. Infrastructure investments within the SISS Portfolio focus on climate solutions that decarbonize the real economy, primarily investments into the energy transition. SISS infrastructure investments target sectors such as clean energy, transmission, storage, hydrogen, biofuels, industrial decarbonization solutions, mobility, and digital infrastructure.

Prior to joining CalSTRS, Daniel led the North American Structured Finance team for VINCI Concessions, structuring the equity investment and debt financing for VINCI’s infrastructure pursuits in the toll road, rail, and airport sectors. Prior to VINCI Concessions, Daniel worked within KPMG's Global Infrastructure practice advising clients on commercial and financial due diligence mandates within the energy and transport sectors.

CalSTRS

California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) is the largest educator-only pension fund in the world, and the second largest pension fund in the U.S. CalSTRS was established by law in 1913 to provide retirement benefits to California’s public school educators from prekindergarten through community college. The market value of the CalSTRS investment portfolio was approximately $396 billion as of January 2026.
