Leo Moreno

CEO , Zelestra

Leo Moreno is the Chief Executive Officer of Zelestra, a global, multi-technology renewable energy company dedicated to making decarbonization a reality. Under his leadership, Zelestra has evolved from a solar-focused developer into a diversified platform encompassing solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects across 13 countries. In 2024, the company was ranked among the top 10 global sellers of clean energy to corporations.

Since becoming CEO, Leo has led a strategic transformation focused on customer-centricity, technological diversification, and the development of regional business units led by senior executives in high-growth markets. This shift has driven significant progress over the past 20 months, including:

  • Growing the contracted project portfolio from 1.3 GW at the end of 2023 to 5.1 GW today
  • Increasing operating and under-construction capacity from 1.0 GW to 2.6 GW
  • Expanding the development pipeline from 13 GW to 30 GW, with nearly 40% consisting of wind and energy storage projects

Prior to Zelestra, Leo held several executive positions at The AES Corporation, including President of AES Clean Energy, where he led the U.S. renewables business to become the largest corporate clean energy provider globally. During his tenure, the platform tripled its workforce, surpassed 10 GW of contracted renewables, and grew its development pipeline to over 50 GW.

As a member of AES’ executive leadership team for six years, Leo led the company’s investment committee, global strategy, and commercial and risk management functions. Earlier in his career, he held various roles in finance and M&A, leading or managing energy projects in over 20 countries.

Leo served as Chairman of the American Clean Power Association (2022–2023), the leading U.S. clean energy trade group composed of CEOs from the sector's major players. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of Delek US, a Fortune 500 midstream energy company. His past Board of Directors experience includes AES Brasil Energia, AES Andes (both publicly traded in Brazil and Chile, respectively), AES Ohio, and the U.S.-Mexico Energy Business Council, co-led by the U.S. Department of Commerce and Department of Energy.

He began his career at Ernst & Young in Brazil and holds a business degree from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. He has also completed executive education programs at Harvard Business School, London Business School, Georgetown University, and the University of Virginia.
