Marc A. Sorel is a Partner in McKinsey’s Boston office, with 12+ years of experience serving public, private, and social sector clients at the intersection of strategy and technology. He helps lead the Firm’s Private Equity and Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice joint venture in North America, including McKinsey’s data center service line.

His recent client work includes leading commercial and operational due diligences for build-to-suit data center platforms serving hyperscalers across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and APAC. Marc has led a rapid fund-strategy engagement for two global digital infrastructure investors, defining and prioritizing investable themes in Europe at the intersection of data centers and energy. He has also convened senior McKinsey experts and industry leaders—including investors, providers, and hyperscaler executives—to assess opportunities and risks across the data center ecosystem. In parallel, he co-led a McKinsey QuantumBlack team to develop a customer-facing GenAI co-pilot that outperformed contemporary GPT models and is now deployed with hundreds of clients. He regularly publishes on the data center ecosystem, including AI Power – Expanding Data Center Capacity to Meet Growing Demand (October 2024) and How data centers and the energy sector can sate AI’s hunger for power (September 2024).

Prior to McKinsey, Marc worked in various U.S. national security roles. While at McKinsey, he deployed with Navy Special Warfare to the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, where he supported Special Operations. He currently serves as a U.S. Navy Reserve Information Warfare Officer, where he is a Lieutenant Commander.

Marc holds a J.D. and M.S.F.S., with distinction, from Georgetown University. He also holds a B.A. in History, with distinction, from Yale University.
