Steve joined the Teacher Retirement System of Texas in October 2014 as Assistant General Counsel – Investments and currently serves as Senior Investment Counsel, with a practice that encompasses a broad span of investment transactions in both private and public market opportunities, across asset classes, strategies, geographies and structures, including strategic partnerships, bespoke funds of one, co-investments and commingled funds as well as direct investments, M&A transactions, revenue sharing arrangements and secondary transactions. Before joining Texas Teachers, Steve was in-house counsel for investment transactions at a publicly-traded Fortune 500 property casualty insurance holding company headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut and, prior to that, he was an associate in the Corporate & Financial Services practice at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in New York, where he assisted with the representation of private equity sponsors and hedge funds in M&A and investment transactions. He received his J.D., cum laude, from NYU School of Law, where he was a Mitchell Jacobson Law & Business Scholar and a Robert McKay Scholar, and his B.Sc. in Economics and B.A. in History from Duke University. Steve is admitted to practice in New York and Texas.
