Managing Partner , Excolere Equity Partners
Tony Miller is the founder and Managing Partner of Excolere Equity Partners, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm that is focused on human capital business services and education technology and tech-enabled services.

Before founding Excolere, Mr. Miller co-founded the Vistria Group, LP, a Chicago-based private equity firm where he was the Chief Operating Officer, and a senior partner leading the firm’s education investments.

Previously in 2009, Mr. Miller was appointed by President Obama to serve as the Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Department of Education where he oversaw a ~$77 billion budget and ~15,000 employees and contractors. In his role, Mr. Miller also led the U.S. Government’s education and workforce development missions to China, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Ecuador, Brazil, Suriname and Russia.

Prior to his Presidential Appointment, Mr. Miller was an Operating Partner at Silver Lake, a global leader in technology investing. Earlier in his career, Mr. Miller was a Partner with McKinsey & Company where he served healthcare and technology companies throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Mr. Miller has served on numerous boards over the years, including as Chairman of the Board of Apollo Education Group, and a board member of ACT, Inc., HigherEducation.com., Media Source Inc., Penn Foster, and Vanta Education. His current board responsibilities include Criteria, GoGuardian, IntermediaryEd, Lantern Learning Group and University of Phoenix.

He holds an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business (GSB), where he completed his studies at Stanford’s Japan Center for Technology and Innovation, and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University.
