Phil Fretwell

Phil Fretwell is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of AshGrove Capital, a pan-European investor providing bespoke capital and financing solutions to ambitious B2B software and services businesses. With offices in London and Copenhagen, AshGrove manages approximately €1 billion of capital across its strategies. 

Phil has more than two decades of experience in European leveraged finance and private credit. He began his career at Barclays before joining the founding team of Ares Capital Europe in 2007. In 2014, he joined TPG Sixth Street Partners as a founding Partner and Co-Head of its European specialty lending business, where he helped build the platform, raise its first pan-European fund and oversee more than €500 million of investments.

Phil co-founded Ashgrove in 2019 along with Jonathon Ferguson and Ilkka Rantanen. Recent investments include core banking platform 10x and yachting software, payments and crew-services platform Voly.
