Senior Portfolio Manager Property, Aware Super

Mathieu joined the Aware Super UK office in July 2024. He is a seasoned investment director and experienced board member, having been active in direct and indirect real estate for over 20 years, working with leading managers, operators and investors and across all real estate sectors.  Most recently he was the Head of Sustainability & Impact Investing at PATRIZIA, Responsible for driving PATRIZIA’s Sustainability agenda (the integration of ESG throughout the business and PATRIZIA’s Net Zero Carbon Strategy) as well as growing PATRIZIA’s assets under management in Impact Investing.

Previously Mathieu was a Senior Director with PGGM, a top 10 European institutional manager with over €200 billion in assets, where he was responsible for over €2 billion of new investments in the UK as well as across Europe. He has a proven track record in establishing strategic alliances, such as the successful Build to Rent partnership with Legal & General, and has been actively involved in the successful recapitalising, refinancing, sale and liquidation of investments.

Mathieu is considered to be an influential leader in the field of sustainability within real estate, responsible for the high sustainability performance of PGGM’s real estate portfolio and the program of preparing the portfolio for Climate Change (in terms of physical risk and transition risk). Until recently her served on the Board of the GRESB Foundation, after having served as Non-Executive Director on the Board of GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark).

Previously he was the co-chair of the ULI Europe Sustainability Product Council, a former member of the Advisory Board of ULI’s Centre for Sustainability and Economic Performance and of the CRREM Global Scientific & Investors Committee. He was also Chair of the INREV Sustainability Committee, a past member of the INREV Investor Advisory Council and is a regular speaker on the topic of ESG within Private Real Estate.

Mathieu is an INSEAD certified director, holds a Master of Real Estate (Amsterdam School of Real Estate/University of Amsterdam) and Ba in Environmental Management (Van Hall Institute Groningen).
