Andrea Engel

Ms. Engel has been the World Bank Group (WBG) Country Manager for the UK since April 2025, serving as the primary contact for WBG services and accelerating development solutions. Previously, she led the WBG London Office and served as IFC Country Head for the UK, Ireland, and Spain, overseeing government and stakeholder engagement and supporting private sector collaboration. She also co-leads the IFC Women’s Network, IFC’s largest and oldest Employee Resource Group.

Earlier, Andrea headed the IFC Brussels’ office, managing EU/EIB relations and engagement with Benelux, Baltics, Cyprus, Greece, and Portugal. During the Greek financial crisis, she acted as IFC’s Country Manager, leading efforts to recapitalize banks, enhance transport, and support SMEs.

Before joining IFC, she worked at Eurasia Group in Washington, DC, analyzing European political risk, and as an EU consultant for Interel in Brussels, advising diverse stakeholders on EU engagement.

Andrea holds degrees from Exeter and Edinburgh Universities and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Strasbourg. She is fluent in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
